Football is most the most popular sport but handball is the national sport – a bit like football where you can use your hands which is also played in Scandinavian countries. However midnight golf is played in June and July when Iceland enjoys 24 hours of sunlight.

There are some local delicacies, including the beautiful mountain lamb, Skyr a soft cheese which is high in protein and virtually fat free is very much like yogurt. It has recently made it's way into the supermarkets in the UK.

Is Iceland cold?
Warmed by a branch of the Gulf Stream but close to the Arctic it does not get as cold as you think given its name, but it does get high rainfall and cold winter temperature ranges from high 13°C in summer to -3°C in winter.
